Prerequisites

This course assumes you’ve got solid Tableau fundamentals. If the list below feels familiar (and exciting), you’re ready.

• Understanding why we visualize data and how pre-attentive attributes influence design.

• Building data models using relationships, joins, unions, and pivots.

• Comfort with data connectors, dimensions, measures, discrete/continuous pills, and filters.

• Proficiency with the marks card, dashboard formatting, and handling dates.

• Ability to create common chart types (bar, line, area, map, scatterplot), dual-axis, and effective dashboards.

• Using filter, highlight, and URL actions to add interactivity.

• Applying design principles, minimizing clutter, and making color choices that support the story.

• Writing basic calculated fields (logical statements, Boolean logic, etc.).

• A working understanding of Tableau’s Order of Operations and publishing to Tableau Cloud/Server.

• Most importantly: a high level of intellectual curiosity. The kind that asks “what if?” and then builds to find out.
