Course Overview
This isn’t your beginner bootcamp. This is where dashboards level up, maps get sophisticated, and parameters pull off unexpected stunts. Whether you're here to fine-tune performance or dive into advanced calculations, you’re exactly where you need to be.
What we'll Cover
Non-Standard Charts: Because bars and lines are just the starting point.
Advanced Mapping: Go beyond dots on a map. Think custom geocoding, layered maps, and spatial joins.
Advanced Dashboarding: Build dashboards that aren’t just functional—they’re frictionless, intuitive, and beautiful.
Parameters & Parameter Actions: Unlock interactivity that puts your users in the driver’s seat.
Sets, Set Controls & Set Actions: Create dynamic, user-responsive dashboards with smart logic.
Advanced Data Modeling: Master relationships, LODs, and multi-source data blending like a pro.
Tableau Prep Builder: Clean, shape, and prep your data before it ever hits the canvas.
Advanced Calculated Fields: If/then logic, type conversions, nested functions—you’ll be speaking formula fluently.
Advanced Charts: From bump and radial to Sankey and beyond. When it’s time to impress, these come in handy.
Design Techniques & Tips: Make your dashboards as appealing as they are insightful.
Workbook Performance Optimization: Techniques for making dashboards faster, smoother, and more scalable.
Essential Techniques, Tricks & Hacks: The little things that make a big difference, straight from the expert toolbox.
Prerequisites
This course assumes you’ve got solid Tableau fundamentals. If the list below feels familiar (and exciting), you’re ready.
Understanding why we visualize data and how pre-attentive attributes influence design.
Building data models using relationships, joins, unions, and pivots.
Comfort with data connectors, dimensions, measures, discrete/continuous pills, and filters.
Proficiency with the marks card, dashboard formatting, and handling dates.
Ability to create common chart types (bar, line, area, map, scatterplot), dual-axis, and effective dashboards.
Using filter, highlight, and URL actions to add interactivity.
Applying design principles, minimizing clutter, and making color choices that support the story.
Writing basic calculated fields (logical statements, Boolean logic, etc.).
A working understanding of Tableau’s Order of Operations and publishing to Tableau Cloud/Server.
Most importantly: a high level of intellectual curiosity. The kind that asks “what if?” and then builds to find out.
Participants should have at least six months of hands-on experience with these skills. If you’re confident in your abilities but have less time in the trenches, reach out to us before registering—we’re happy to help you assess fit.
