Tell us a little about yourself
Hi! I’m Janice Stanford, CEO (Chief Eternal Optimist) and Owner of Flygirl Creative. We are a branding and design agency. We get your name known, and your product or service sold through the power of strategy and design.
When did you realize you had moxy?
I was in a taxi on my way to the Ronald Reagan Airport. My driver continued to take wrong turns. Eventually I'd had enough and asked him to pull over. I got out of the backseat, tapped on the driver’s side and calmly said, “I need to get to the airport or I’ll miss my flight. I’m going to have to drive so we need to swap seats.” I was calm, polite, yet direct and even though he was hesitant, he handed over the wheel and I got to the airport with minutes to spare.
Tell us about a time when your moxy impacted your career journey?
I was working for an awesome branding and design agency called Graphiculture. When the sh*it hit the fan in 2008, I thought, “Yikes. Time to dust off the resume.” Then I thought, “Nope. I love the owner & I love this work.” I told the owner I was going to hit the road with our portfolio and not come back without a project. I got new business from Mattel, CVS, Kohls, and Nike. That’s when I knew I could PURSUE the work and not just DO the work.
What songs are in your fav playlist?
The album, Silk Sonic, by Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak. The song, “Fly as Me” is an obvious favorite, but the entire album is on repeat.
